How is the average cost to run calculated for Meaco products?
Our running costs are based on how much electricity a product uses in an hour, multiplied by the average UK electricity price.
The calculation:
Power consumption (kW) × electricity unit rate (pence per kWh) = cost per hour
For example, a product using 1kW of power at an electricity rate of 25p per kWh costs about 25p per hour to run.
A few things to know:
- We use the Ofgem energy price cap rate so the figures reflect a typical UK household. If your tariff is cheaper or more expensive, your costs will be lower or higher.
- The figures assume the product is running at full power. In everyday use, many products cost less than this. Dehumidifiers and air conditioners switch off or slow down once they reach your target humidity or temperature, and lower fan speeds use less energy.
- Your home makes a difference. Room size, insulation, the weather and how you use the product all affect how hard it has to work.
To work out your own cost, check your energy bill for your unit rate. Then multiply it by the power consumption listed in your product’s specifications.
How is the noise of Meaco products measured?
Our data comes from scientific testing, in a special sound chamber, readings are taken by microphones on all four sides of the machine and then averaged. This test is repeated over and over again on numerous samples for consistency and then an average taken of all of the tests.
Why do I get different readings when measuring the sound of my unit at home?
Measuring the unit on a domestic device, will not give the same readings as we get during testing, and are unfortunately not accurate.
Our data comes from scientific testing, in a special sound chamber, readings are taken by microphones on all four sides of the machine and then averaged. This test is repeated over and over again on numerous samples for consistency and then an average taken of all of the tests. This is where our data comes from.
The issue with comparing this laboratory data with the unit in your home environment is that you will never have zero decibels as your background noise, so you will always start off with a background noise level of circa 30dB, even in a really quiet space.
The next issue you will have is that phone apps or handheld meters are not designed to read quiet levels. If you look at their spec sheet you will see that they are tuned to loud noises, because in 99% of applications that is what measuring noise is all about outside of the laboratory, protecting us against noise levels.
You therefore have a combination of problems, background noise, a meter that is not designed for measuring at levels we have tested and the impossibility of recreating the tests that our data is based on.
You will therefore never get the same result and the two cannot be compared.
Which products are compatible with the Meaco app?
The Meaco app lets you control smart-enabled Meaco products from your phone over Wi-Fi. You can switch them on and off, change modes and settings, set timers and check their status, even when you’re in another room.
Products that work with the Meaco app:
- Air conditioners: the MeacoCool MC Series Pro range and Meaco Cirro Super Quiet range
- Dehumidifiers: MeacoDry Arete Two & Meaco DD8L Pro
- Fans and air circulators: MeacoFan Sefte Pro range & Meaco Sefte 36 Tower Fan
You can check whether a product is app-compatible on its product page. Look for “App compatible: Yes” in the specifications.
