Humidifier Owners FAQs

There is no mist coming from my humidifier, what should I do?

If you own a humidifier from the Meaco Armin range, then that is correct! It is an evaporative humidifier which means it does not produce 'mist' - this prevents the spread of bacteria through the air.

If you own the Meaco Deluxe 202 humidifier we would advise that you try the following:

  • Ensure that there is enough water in the tank
  • Clean and/or change the HEPA/charcoal filter as this may have become blocked
  • Try using the humidifier in another mains plug socket

If you've checked all of these and are still experiencing an issue, please contact our customer service team so they can look into this further for you.

How often should I change my humidifier filter?

It depends on your humidifier and how hard your water is.

Armin 300 and Armin 680 filters: replace every 3-6 months. Swap the filter sooner if it becomes hard, crusty with limescale or discoloured, or if the room is no longer getting as humid as it used to.

Mist Deluxe 202 HEPA/carbon filter: replace roughly every 3-6 months.

Change it sooner if:

  • You live in a hard-water area
  • You run your humidifier every day
  • The filter looks discoloured or smells musty

Why it matters: a clogged or limescaled filter makes your humidifier work less effectively. Over time, it can also harbour bacteria.

How do I change my humidifier filter?

Always switch off and unplug your humidifier before changing the filter.

Armin 300 and Armin 680:

  1. Switch off and unplug the humidifier
  2. Remove the water tank and empty any remaining water
  3. Lift off the top section to access the filter
  4. Lift out the old humidifying filter and dispose of it
  5. Fit the new filter, making sure it sits correctly in place
  6. Replace the Silvertex® insert if it’s due to be changed
  7. Reassemble the humidifier, refill the tank and switch it back on

Deluxe 202:

  1. Switch off and unplug the humidifier
  2. Remove the water tank and empty any remaining water
  3. Lift off the top section to access the filter
  4. Lift out the old humidifying filter and dispose of it
  5. Fit the new filter, making sure it sits correctly in place
  6. Reassemble the humidifier, refill the tank and switch it back on
How often should I clean my humidifier?

Regular cleaning keeps your humidifier working well and stops limescale and bacteria from building up.

Every day: empty any water left in the tank and refill it with fresh water. Don’t leave water sitting in the tank for days.

Every week: give the water tank and base a proper clean. This removes limescale and any slimy residue before it builds up.

Before storing it: clean it thoroughly, then let every part dry completely before you pack it away. This prevents mould from growing while it’s in storage.

Clean it more often if:

  • You live in a hard-water area
  • You use your humidifier every day
  • You notice a smell, slime or white residue
What's the best way to clean my humidifier?

Always switch off and unplug your humidifier before cleaning.

  1. Pour away any water and remove the filter or filters.
  2. Fill the tank and base with a mild descaling solution. Leave it to soak for [20–30 minutes] to loosen limescale.
  3. Scrub gently. Use a soft brush or cloth to clean the tank, base and any hard-to-reach corners.
  4. Rinse thoroughly
  5. Wipe everything down and leave the parts to air dry before reassembling

If you own a Meaco Armin humidifier, it can be put in the dishwasher!

Avoid: bleach, harsh chemicals and submerging the main unit or electrical parts in water.

Top tip: if you live in a hard-water area, using filtered or distilled water slows down limescale build-up and makes cleaning much easier.

Is there anything I need to do when I first receive my humidifier?

When you first receive your humidifier, it is important you follow the steps below carefully:

  1. Check your humidifier and its box and packaging for any transport damage. In case of damage to the humidifier, inform the sender immediately.
  2. Choose where you would like to locate your humidifier. We recommend placing your humidifier on a level surface, off the floor.
  3. Remove the bag around the evaporation pads and insert the pads back into the water tank.
  4. Plug the humidifier into the mains and turn it on using the Power Button.
  5. When the humidifier is first switched on a number will appear on the display. Allow the humidifier to gauge an accurate reading of the humidity level in the environment it is situated in for the first 10 minutes.

General Humidifier FAQs

What are humidifiers good for?

Humidifiers are ideal for improving the moisture levels in the air, if the air in your house is too dry then you are more likely to suffer from sore throats, chapped lips, dry skin and some respiratory problems. A humidifier can help you get a better balance to the room humidity. They can also purify the air, making it better for you and your family.

Is it good to sleep with a humidifier on?

Absolutely, humidifiers are often bought for use in the bedroom, commonly to help young babies and children get a better nights sleep when they have a blocked nose.

Adults often use humidifiers as well, not only when they have a cold and blocked nose, but also to stop or reduce snoring.

What are the pros and cons of humidifiers?

The pros are easy: a simple way to improve the air quality and the moisture in the air, plus efficient to run, quiet operation and doesn't take up much room in your home.

We think there are no real downsides - a humidifier is an investment in better air in your home and are really efficient to run.

What is the best room humidifier to buy?

The best humidifier depends on why you need one and where you’ll use it. There are two main types:

Evaporative humidifiers (Meaco Armin range)
A fan blows air through a moistened wick filter, and the water evaporates naturally into the room. Because they work like nature does, they can’t over-humidify a room and they don’t leave white dust on surfaces. They’re a great choice for bedrooms, living rooms and anyone wanting a low-maintenance, natural option.

Armin 300: smaller rooms and bedrooms
Armin 680: larger rooms and open-plan spaces

Ultrasonic humidifiers (Meaco Mist Deluxe 202)
Ultrasonic vibrations turn water into a fine, visible mist. They’re quiet and add moisture quickly. The Deluxe 202 also has a HEPA and carbon filter, so it purifies the air at the same time. That makes it a great all-in-one choice for allergy sufferers during the winter months.

Things to think about:

  • Room size: match the humidifier’s capacity to your space.
  • Water tank size: a bigger tank means fewer refills, especially if you run it overnight.
  • Noise: look for a sleep or night mode for bedrooms.
  • Built-in humidistat: lets you set your ideal humidity level so the humidifier works only when needed. We recommend 40–60%.
  • Hard water: if you live in a hard-water area, an evaporative humidifier or a model with a scale filter will help prevent limescale and white dust.
