Not sure which dehumidifier is best for your home?

Home dehumidifiers designed for real life:

Why choose Meaco?

With over 30 years of experience, Meaco is the UK’s leading provider of dehumidifiers. Whether you live in a small flat, a family home, or a shared living space, our dehumidifiers for home use are designed to help manage damp, condensation, mould risk and excess moisture.

Our range of domestic dehumidifiers includes compact models for smaller rooms, larger-capacity units for busy homes, and 2-in-1 dehumidifier and air purifier models with a built-in HEPA filter.

From drying laundry indoors to reducing condensation on windows, a Meaco dehumidifier gives you a simple, practical way to improve comfort and control humidity at home.

The benefits of using a dehumidifier at home

Using a dehumidifier can help reduce excess moisture in the air, making it easier to manage damp, condensation, musty smells and mould risk. This is especially useful during colder months, when homes are often less ventilated and moisture from cooking, showering, breathing and daily life.

A home dehumidifier can also make indoor laundry drying easier. Many Meaco models include Laundry Mode, helping clothes dry quickly and without relying on a tumble dryer.

By reducing moisture in the air, a dehumidifier can also help your home feel warmer and more comfortable in winter. Drier air is cheaper to heat than damp air, which can support a more comfortable indoor environment during autumn and winter.

Dehumidifiers can also be beneficial in summer, helping you to feel more comfortable in the heat on very humid and thunderous days and reducing mould risk in basements.

Choosing the right dehumidifier for your home

Choosing the best dehumidifier for home use depends on a few factors, including the size of the space, the amount of moisture and where the unit will be used.

Smaller rooms, flats and bedrooms may only need a compact 6L, 10L or 12L dehumidifier. Larger homes, laundry-heavy households, open-plan spaces or areas with more persistent damp may benefit from a 20L or 25L model.

Compressor dehumidifiers are ideal for most warm indoor spaces and general household use. Desiccant dehumidifiers are often better suited to cooler environments such as garages, workshops, boats and cellars. These are spaces where temperatures are regularly lower.

If you are drying laundry, tackling condensation across several rooms, or dealing with more noticeable damp, choosing a larger-capacity or Mode-specific model can help improve performance. For example, Laundry Mode for drying washing or engineered for increased fan speeds to target a damp problem area.

What is the best dehumidifier for home use in the UK?

Our MeacoDry Arete® models are the best all-rounders. They offer smart humidity control, quiet operation, and laundry drying features, backed by industry awards from Which? Best Buy to Red Dot Design and Quiet Mark.

Where should I place my dehumidifier?

Place your dehumidifier where it fits naturally into daily life. Our dehumidifiers are designed to be easy to live with, so you can position them in the room where you need moisture control most, whether that is a bedroom, hallway, living space, utility room or laundry area.

Arete® models are especially easy to place because they can sit flush against a wall, helping them blend neatly into your home without getting in the way. On Arete® Two models, the adjustable louvre also lets you direct airflow where it is needed, giving you more control.

If you are using your dehumidifier to dry laundry, place it in the same room as the washing and keep doors and windows closed. This helps the dehumidifier work more efficiently by focusing moisture removal in one space.

Will a dehumidifier help with mould or damp?

Yes. A dehumidifier can’t fix structural weaknesses or the root cause of damp, but it can prevent problems around damp from getting worse. They do this by removing excess moisture, managing humidity and making it harder for damp and mould to return. For ongoing damp problems, we recommend fixing the root cause, if possible, and to choose a 20–25L model with a high fan speed. This should help to keep humidity under control and protect your home and belongings. We recommend the MeacoDry Arete® Two 20L or MeacoDry Arete® Two 25L and target airflow at the problem area using the louvre for this type of issue.

Are Meaco dehumidifiers energy-efficient?

Absolutely. Meaco dehumidifiers are highly energy-efficient, as and, on Smart Humidity Mode, they automatically regulate humidity for you, often only needing to run a few hours a day after initial use. Many models also feature eco modes and auto shut-off to save power.

In practice, most households won’t need to run their dehumidifier all the time. Once the humidity level has reduced after the first few weeks, the unit may only need to switch on for a couple of hours a day to maintain healthy conditions.

For laundry, running the dehumidifier in a closed room with clothes inside provides a cost-effective alternative to tumble drying. Read more on the Meaco Way to Drying your Washing.

What size dehumidifier do I need?

As a rough guide, a 6L for single rooms, a 10–20L model will usually suit homes up to three bedrooms, while larger or very damp properties may benefit from a 25L model. You may even need multiple units, depending on the situation.

Keep in mind that the best choice also depends on factors like room temperature, the severity of the damp problem, and how you plan to use the dehumidifier.

Read our blog for more information on how to choose the best dehumidifier for you.

Should I run a dehumidifier all day?

Yes, use Smart Humidity Mode to let your dehumidifier switch on and off as needed, and manage your humidity for you. Meaco dehumidifiers are engineered with “Meaco Logic” and use smart humidity sensors to operate efficiently. You can set your target humidity (we recommend 55%RH) and let the unit manage itself. In most homes, once the humidity has stabilised, the dehumidifier will only need to run for a few hours a day. For laundry, it’s possible for a dehumidifier to usually dry clothes within 6 hours, rather than over several days by simply air drying.

However, if you want to set your dehumidifier to run all day long to tackle a specific problem or concern, you can by selecting Continuous Operation.

How do I choose the best dehumidifier for home use?

It’s important to choose a dehumidifier based on your space and use case:

  • Compressor. Best suited to warm, centrally heated homes, compressor models are ideal for everyday use in bedrooms, kitchens, and living areas. They efficiently extract moisture in temperatures above 10°C and are typically more energy-efficient than desiccant types in standard indoor environments. The MeacoDry Arete® range is a top choice for this category. View our compressor dehumidifiers.
  • Desiccant. These use a different drying technology and offer higher performance in unheated or cold environments, such as garages, cellars, and conservatories. Desiccant models like the Meaco DD8L are also lighter and quieter, making them easy to move and ideal for quick moisture removal in challenging spaces but can be slightly more expensive to run. View our desiccant dehumidifiers.
  • 2-in-1 Combined Air Purifier (HEPA filter) models – If you want to improve air quality as well as manage humidity, choose a model with a built-in medical-grade H13 HEPA filter, such as the Arete® range. These filters capture allergens, and other fine particles, ideal for allergy sufferers or homes with pets. Browse our combined 2-in-1 Dehumidifier and Air Purifier range.
  • High-capacity – Larger units (20–25L) are ideal for whole house coverage, homes with persistent damp, or for drying multiple loads of laundry indoors. Models like the MeacoDry Arete® One 25L offer powerful moisture extraction, continuous drainage options, and features like Laundry Mode for hassle-free, energy-efficient laundry drying.
