Control Damp, Condensation, Mould and Excess Moisture

Explore Meaco’s range of home and commercial dehumidifiers, designed to help manage excess moisture, reduce condensation and create conditions that are less favourable for damp and mould. A dehumidifier removes excess moisture from the air, helping to create a drier, more comfortable and healthier indoor environment.

Dry Laundry Indoors

Dehumidifiers are an efficient way to dry laundry indoors, it’s kinder to your clothes and to the planet. Instead of firing up the tumble dryer or leaving clothes to air dry around the house, a dehumidifier removes the moisture released by wet clothes, dries laundry at the fraction of the cost and protects your home from damp and musty odours.

For the best results, place your dehumidifier and laundry in a closed room, leaving enough space for air to circulate around the clothes. Many Meaco dehumidifiers also include a dedicated laundry mode, helping dry washing in as little as 6 hours for faster, more efficient drying. For the best results, partner your dehumidifier with a MeacoFan for even faster indoor laundry drying.

Compressor or Desiccant Dehumidifier?

Choosing the right type of dehumidifier depends largely on where you plan to use it, the temperature and size of your home as well as what you need the unit to do.

Compressor dehumidifiers are ideal for heated homes and everyday indoor spaces, where temperatures are typically above 10°C. They offer an energy-efficient solution for managing condensation, controlling humidity and drying laundry efficiently in bedrooms, living rooms, flats and family homes.

Desiccant dehumidifiers perform effectively at lower temperatures, making them well suited to colder spaces such as garages, workshops, cellars, boats and caravans. Our desiccant models can work effectively down to around 1°C, managing moisture in spaces where a compressor model may be less suitable.

The best dehumidifier for you will also depend on the size of your property, the humidity level you are looking to manage, your laundry-drying needs and where the unit will be used most often.

Dehumidifier FAQs

Get answers to all your dehumidifier questions.

What does a dehumidifier do?

A dehumidifier draws excess moisture from the air and collects it as water in a tank or removes it through continuous drainage. This can help reduce condensation, damp, mould and musty odours while maintaining a more comfortable humidity level. A healthier indoor environment is great for your property and family’s health.

Can a dehumidifier help with mould?

Yes, a dehumidifier can reduce the excess humidity that encourages mould growth. However, existing mould can also be treated separately, and underlying causes of moisture such as leaks or poor ventilation should be investigated.

What size dehumidifier do I need?

The right capacity depends on the size of your home and the humidity levels you are looking to manage. Smaller 6L models may suit flats or individual rooms, while larger homes, regular laundry drying and frequent condensation may require a higher-capacity 25L dehumidifier.

Where should I place a dehumidifier?

Traditionally, and for most dehumidifiers on the market, you would place your dehumidifier in a central position such as a hallway or landing, with internal doors open. With Arete®, you can position your dehumidifier flush against the wall in any space you are looking to manage humidity. We always recommend to keep external windows and doors closed while it is running.

For targeted moisture control or laundry drying, place the dehumidifier inside the affected room and close the door and windows.

Can I use a dehumidifier to dry laundry?

Yes, dehumidifiers are efficient and cheaper alternatives to tumble dryers for drying clothes. They use less energy and are kinder to fabrics and to the planet. Simply, place wet laundry on a clothes horse with your dehumidifier in a closed room, allowing plenty of space for air to circulate. Many Meaco dehumidifiers have a dedicated Laundry Mode; switch this on and your clothes should be dried in around 6 hours.

Should I leave windows open when using a dehumidifier?

No. For the most efficient use, external windows and doors should normally remain closed to prevent additional moisture entering while the dehumidifier is operating.
