The Complete Dehumidifier In the December 09 issue, Practical Boat Owner magazine tested several dehumidifiers for use on a Boat, the clear winner was the Meaco DD122FW and it won the PBO Best on Test award. The DD122FW has always been one of our favourite dehumidifiers. It benefits from all of the good features of desiccant machines with its lightweight, low noise level, slim profile and high extraction rate. It was always a very popular machine with flat and house owners and now it is improved and in more demand than ever before.
Homeowners will still love the new DD122FW because of its low noise level and the fact that it is small and quiet enough for a flat and yet powerful enough for a 5-bedroom house. The Nano-Silver filter kills bacteria on contact and ioniser makes the air healthier.
The laundry feature does what it says on the tin and dries washing within a few hours. The DD122FW comes with the option of continuous operation and continuous drainage - making it suitable for all low temperature applications. Boat and caravan owners will appreciate its small footprint, while those looking after cars in a garage will appreciate its large extraction capacity (enough to look after a double garage). All in all the new DD122FW is in a league of it’s own – no other dehumidifier has all of these features, in such a small package and at this price point.
Desiccant Dehumidifiers The DD122FW is not a normal dehumidifier. Instead of using a compressor it uses a desiccant wheel to dry the air. This has several advantages. Consistent water removal from the air. Whatever the temperature the DD122FW will remove 7 litres of water per day. Whether you put it in your cold garage or your warm house the dehumidifier will extract exactly the same amount of water. This is equivalent to a 20 litre compressor dehumidifier in the house and a considerably larger, industrial, machine in the garage. Heat. The air coming out of the DD122FW will be about 10 to 12°C warmer than the air that goes into it. Very useful for drying washing and warming cold areas of the house. Weight. The lack of a compressor makes the DD122FW about half as heavy as a normal dehumidifier. Noise. The lack of a compressor means that the DD122FW is quieter than even the smallest dehumidifiers available on this website. Great in a flat. Green Issues. No compressor and cooling coils mean no refrigerants making the DD122FW kinder to the environment and the correct choice if you are concerned about the planet. Power. As is the case with all desiccant machines the running wattage of the DD122FW is higher than that of a compressor based machine. But one has to take into account the fact that desiccant machines get the job done faster and are therefore on for less time. The end result in terms of consumption is very similar. Practical Boat Owner found that it extracted water several times faster than any of the compressor machines on test. Saving you money. Using a dehumidifier means that the air is drier, if the air is drier there are less water molecules in the air for your heating system to heat. This makes your heating more efficient and you feel warmer. This means that it costs you less to heat the house and you will be able to turn your thermostat down. It is more than likely that the money you save on heating the air will be more than you spend on running the dehumidifier.
