London Welsh players come to our local school

We have a lifetime long passion for rugby which dates back to 70s and going to Cardiff Arms Park to watch the likes of Gareth Edwards, Gerald Davies, Terry Holmes, Gareth Davies running out forAlan_Awcock_coaching_900 Cardiff.  Since we moved to Sussex in the 1980s we gravitated towards supporting London Welsh for obvious reasons.

In 2014 we decided to take that support one step further forward by sponsoring (in a very small way) a couple of the players at London Welsh during their second Premiership season.

Although on the field things did not go to plan for London Welsh we enjoyed our association with them and took clients to matches as their hospitality arrangements were first class.  I guess if things are not going so well on the field it makes sense to work extra hard to look after your loyal sponsors off the field.

One of the main reasons for us in sponsoring the players Alan Awcock and Alex Davies was that they had one eye on the future and were both qualified coaches with a passion for teaching children rugby.  So as part of the deal we arranged for the boys to go into one of our local schools in Guildford – St Josephs and deliver and afternoon’s coaching session.Alex_Davies_coaching_900

I have to say that the children really enjoyed it and it is always a pleasure to watch close up two top class coaches at work.  Despite light drizzle the children really bought into it and were glued to Alex and Alan’s every word.

It was a memorable afternoon and reminded me why I love being involved with sport.

We continue to sponsor London Welsh and their community coaches were on hand last month to help the students at St Peters deliver the Year 3 and 4 primary schools tag rugby event that we ran there.
